A spinoff that reassigns the most complicated pairing in The Walking Dead's long run — Maggie and Negan, whose history includes an act of violence she has never forgiven — and then drops them into Manhattan, which the series treats as a sealed-off ruin governed by neither law nor clear threat hierarchy. Eli Jorné builds the show around a single extended mission into that island, using the geography of decayed infrastructure as both obstacle and atmosphere. Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan carry the dramatic weight: the mission requires a working alliance, and the alliance requires both characters to hold their history in suspension without quite setting it down.
